Fudge without Condensed Milk

Ive always seen fudge recipes including condensed milk, chocolate and occasionally butter. But I never have condensed milk on hand, so today I decided to see if I can make it without any. It seems like fudge is basically thick chocolate ganache. I have a few different ideas for add-ins as well (see ideas below).

Ingredients

1 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 tbsp butter

1/4 cup half&half

pinch of salt

Instructions

In a microwave safe mug, heat the half&half until warm, but not burnt. Stir in salt.

Add the chocolate chips and butter to a microwave safe bowl. Microwave until melted. Add in the warm half&half, and mix with a spatula or spoon slowly until mostly combined. Switch to a whisk and mix until smooth. Let cool at room temperature for 5 minutes. Stir again. Pour into a 8.5×8.5 inch tin lined with greased parchment paper. Smooth out and add toppings (optional). Refrigerate for about an hour. Cut into 6 large pieces (3×2) or 9 smaller pieces (3×3). Enjoy! Keep refrigerated.

Topping Ideas

s’mores- sprinkle on mini marshmallows and crushed graham crackers.

chocolate pretzel- sprinkle on mini chocolate chips and crushed pretzels, OR just sprinkle on chocolate-covered pretzels.

sprinkles- sprinkle on sprinkles!

peanut butter- put peanut butter in a piping bag with a small round tip and drizzle on top. add crushed peanuts.

salted chocolate caramel- drizzle on caramel sauce, and sprinkle on a tiny bit of salt.
